In recent years GreenSeam has produced more than 4.7 million hogs, 107 million bushels of soybeans and 511 million bushels of corn. This type of agriculture production represents:
- 8 of the top 10 soybean producing counties in Minnesota
- 7 out of the top 10 hog producing counties in Minnesota (including the top 4)
- 6 out of the top 10 corn grain producing counties in Minnesota (including the top 4)
Minnesota ranks 4th in the U.S. in ethanol production because of the agriculture cluster in GreenSeam. There are 11 ethanol plants with a total capacity of 933 million gallons a year within the area. GreenSeam ethanol production represents about 8% of the total U.S. ethanol production. One third of the corn used for ethanol production is returned for livestock feed as distiller’s grains. One bushel of corn produces approximately 2.8 gallons of ethanol and 18 pounds of livestock feed. GreenSeam produced 210 million bushels of soybeans on 3,635,600 acres. A significant portion of those were processed at facilities such as ADM or CHS.
Engineering, construction and manufacturing are key to progressing agriculture into the future. Without advancements in the way agricultural equipment is designed and produced the quantity and quality of our everyday ag products would be no where near the capabilities and standards we see today.
